This is a question Addicted

Cigarettes, gambling, porn and booze. What's your addiction? How low have you sunk and how have you tried to beat it?

Thanks to big-girl's-blouse for the suggestion

I am adicted to my job
I work in a bike shop, building cheap and a little bit crappy mountain bikes and then selling them to very nice people. However I love my bikes (all three of them, the cheapest of which was almost £1500) so going to work and talking about bikes is heaven. I spend my wages on my bikes and get to laugh at other people who buy cheap (less than £1000) bikes.

I am so addicted to my work, that I even pop in on my day off and help out if they are busy. I love bikes me...

By the way, the last bike I bought has a bloody great big engine, so I am not a total nerd!

What bike with an engine did you get?
I have inflicted a few classics on myself. Currently the only one that runs is a battered old CG125...

I bought myself a rather tasty
Suzuki SV650S

Hmm, lovely and it is even more lovely when it gets to about 105mph and the frame resonates at just the right frequency. Even the wife loves it and she is a Dyed in the Wool, Kawasaki girl.

Hey!
My bike was 450 quid from a bike specialist shop. Does that mean they were sniggering at me afterwards?

no of course not...
In truth, most people do not even think that they should buy a bike that is worth more than £200.

It really annoys me when some old twat comes in with a complaint about a bike they paid less than £70 for. I just try to look smug when I tell them how much a I paid for my Hope Titanium Hub and that it has never once broken in ten years...

There is a major fuck up though. Good kit lasts. I have had my Touring bike for ten years and that is a mix of XT, LX and Gripshift X-Ray. I spent a fortune on it. It all works beautifully until recently when the rubber grips on the grip shift wore out. Time ot get some new ones... Only to be told "Oh them, they became obsolete about five years ago!" Cuntflaps!

Gutted
I suppose that's a fuck up with really good equipment anywhere that is built to last. Do you think any of your customers get the hint when you tell them how much your bike cost?
I'd like to think so but I guess it's hard to say.

Some get it
but most people who shop in my place want something cheap, so they can sit in the pub and say with conviction that they have a bike, with suspension and disk brakes. What they do not do though is ride the bastards, if they did, I would have to repair more of them.

Cheap bikes are a false economy. These days you only need spend £300 to have something nice and well made. £500 gets you something light and £1000 gets you something light, fast and cleverly made.

I can't resist
There are over 20 bikes in my garage. I have an EG Bates hand built track bike. I have an HR Bates road bike from 1940, with the cantiflex fork, and the strange tubing. I have a Raleigh 20 that I'm building into a rat bike hotrod. I have a couple of 80's top end road bikes. I have a tourer. I have several folding bikes. I could go on, and in my head I will do.....

Just bought another bloody bike
This time it is only a little 125CC Honda to play on.

Now have four bikes and counting. Saw a really nice frame in work this week, can get it on trade for £80... Hmm Tempting.

Sorry Carol
