This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Xbox 360
That's right, I went there.

I don't own any of the next generation consoles but I've played with them heaps and I've gotta say, why do people love the 360 so much? OK, some of the better games like Left 4 Dead aren't available on PS3, but the 360 is worringly noisy, it's prone to the Red Ring of Death, the controllers require AA batteries rather than the inbuilt batteries inside PS3 and Wii controllers, it's get incredibly hot after a few hours and it's chronic for scratching your discs.

Don't see the appeal at all, except maybe for the pricetag.

in defence of the 360
If you buy a new one now they are no more prone to breaking down than the PS3.

The exclusive games far outnumber exclusives for the PS3 and have higher overall quality and multiplatform games in the majority of times look and play better on the 360 than the PS3.

The controllers are much better than the PS3 ones- the thumbsticks are indented, placed more sensibly so you don't need a claw hand to use them, have triggers that you don't need to stick a third party peripheral to to make them usable and don't feel hollow like the DualShock 3 does.

Batteries? PS3 may have an inbuilt battery and charger pack, but the Wii definitely doesn't and it eats batteries at a phenomenal rate.

The online is better than the PS3's as well.

You may pay less for the console, but you definitley pay through the nose for Live, controller charger packs and the £60(!) wireless adapter. That little lot takes it up to the same price as a PS3, but as a games machine, it really is the best.

Bollocks.

Spent time with both...PS3 is miles better.

why have betamax, when you can have blue-ray.
(, Tue 20 Oct 2009, 22:18, closed)
Better hardware maybe
Though it's only internal Sony studios that can do it right and make games like Uncharted 2.

PS3 beats 360 in the media centre stakes, but in the games console stakes the 360 wins hands down. 360 has the best exclusives, the best running multiplat games and by far the best online service. Not to mention the controller.
(, Tue 20 Oct 2009, 22:22, closed)
Sorry.

But I can't dance to that.

I've tried both....360 left me cold...

PS3 does everything better....I love the controller....X-box feels cheap and nasty...

You should have spent a little extra and gone for the best... :-)

Controllers
I've always preferred the feel of the PS controller to that of the XBox, but that's just personal preference really. It seems like most of the games exclusive to the 360 are of the shooting guys genre, which is fine and all, but I like how the PS3 offers more in the adventure/platform area, which is more my cup of tea. I like FPSs too, but I prefer to aim with a mouse.

why have blu ray?
Its a bag of bollocks. Making people pay stupid prices to make something "slightly" clearer?

Only a complete fucktard would buy one.
Stick to DVDs, dumbass.

Every blu ray I've ever watched has been the same quality as a DVD at 3 times the price. Its the ultimate in failure.
(, Tue 20 Oct 2009, 23:19, closed)
sorry... wrong.
yes, some of the blu ray transfers are pish and not worth paying for. with others, like 2001 and john carpenter's The Thing, the disc is absolutely stunning and knocks spots off anything you've seen previously.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 1:26, closed)
Just should never have been Blu-ray
should have been HD-DVD. Sony just muscled in and chose the worse choice for everyone.

Wiimotes
Wiimotes take batteries I'm afraid, just like the 360 pads.

The 360 is shit though.

I loved the 360
With all my heart. Live was 50 bucks a year, and the games were awesome. Buy some rechargeable batteries and its easy to ignore that little hiccup. The 360 was everything I needed, then I bought a PS3, now the 360 is gathering dust, awaiting a new fable game(not update or pacl). In my worthless opinion, the ps3 far surpasses the 360 on every level. And I shittalked the ps3 for years before I bought one.

You answered your own question...
...the games are better - and nobody really cares much about the other minor issues you mention.
(, Tue 20 Oct 2009, 23:20, closed)
:(
Nobody cares about their discs getting scratched? Blimey, I know I bloody do. Any console that scracthes more discs than any other can't be a good thing.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 0:26, closed)
No
Because it doesn't actually happen.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 0:31, closed)
I work in a video store
Half our 360 games have a ring scratched into them because someone ejected the disc at the wrong time. They're way harsh and can totally fuck the game.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 6:02, closed)
"Have a ring scratched into them because...."
User error, not the xbox's fault.

It's like blaming your car for not working after putting sugar in the petrol tank.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 9:55, closed)
I understood it to be
the loose way the x-box holds discs in the tray making them suseptable to wobbling when spinning. I've had friends report you can hear it bouncing when you walk past it!
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 10:00, closed)
Except it's actually the equivalent
of your car dumping a pile of sugar in the tank, if you dare to park on the wrong side of the pumps.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 10:01, closed)
Well yeah...
...it'll scratch them if you use it like a mong - but then if you're that much of one then probablye everything you own is fucked.

Fanboy this, fanboy that
I still use my gameboy! (That's now an official lie since Tetris came out on the psp!)
I agree with some about on-line being better on X-box, but since going to better ISP I'd argue that now as well! X-game chat on the way will bring it up to par with X-box as well.
Oh, ps3 rocks
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 9:22, closed)
Yes
Console fanboys need to shush.

Because PC gaming is massively superior in every way. Including the fact that you don't get reamed for £45 every time you want a new game.

The only real disappointment so far this year has been Forza 3 being the 'tentpole', so no PC port.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 9:51, closed)
PS3 every time
I also just bought a GameCube (2 controllers, memory card, Rogue Squadron II) for £25.00.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 12:50, closed)
I have all 3 consoles
and the PS3 earns its purchase by my dad tunelessly belting out Total Eclipse of the Heart with my Uncle.

Still love my 360 more though.
