As an NHS worker of 8 years I never understand this attitude
"If you need the NHS but the reason you need us is something I don't approve of, you don't deserve the service".

Seriously, the NHS is there to serve the public not the other way around. Everyone has the right to live their life in whatever way they want (as long as they don't directly harm anyone else). Are you seriously suggesting people go around thinking "well, I'm not going to go rock climbing today because I might fall and have to bother the doctors and nurses in A&E"?

Job satisfaction, innit?
Someone repeatedly wrecking their health after being patched up is probably about as soul destroying as building the same wall every day, with someone else going along behind you knocking it down.

Right-o. So, if Mr "I'm a Cunt", having come into A&E starts giving it large because the only treatment we can give isn't acting as fast as he wants, then that's ok?
Hey up - if I was to go and get a bit merry on the old fizzy pop and fell over and needed a visit to the local hospital, I wouldn't be demanding, obnoxious and generally acting like a cunt.

Besides, using rock climbing as an example is not really a good example - that's more like a occupational hazard. Anyway, if someone if rock climbing / mountain biking / extreme kitten huffing, then the chances are they are living a reasonably healthy lifestyle.
Lets try cancer and smoking for example. Seeing as you work for the NHS, what is your trust's policy on cancer treatment for smokers?
Or organ transplant for chronic alcoholics with no intention of stopping?
Maybe extreme examples, but do you see my point?

Well whatever the rights and wrongs
I'd be pretty pissed off having to do your job at times.

The smokers and the alcoholics have paid plenty extra in tax to fund the NHS
The mountain bikers and climbers? Not so much.
