This is a question Family codes and rituals

Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

What codes and rituals does your family have?

We make up silly names for objects...
The mini hoover or 'Dustbuster' = The SuckySucky.
Lawnmower = Maurice.
Our Lava lamp = Lawrence.
Last 2 christmas trees = Forest and Blue.
Our cat, Mango = Monsteros, Creature.
My Daughter, Chloe= Clo, Bo, Bubs, Bubsillicious.
Horses = Poggies

My wife will frequently say in the presence of guests "Oh, could you just turn Lawrence on" (!!!)

And both the cat and the daughter know all their other odd names and will react when called by them.

My daughter is 4 and I try to tell myself that we make up silly names for her benefit, but the truth is we've been doing it for years.

We have one of those big, fuck-off desktop calculator jobs at home...

It's know throughout the family as 'Clarence, the cross-eyed calculator'

not sure why I named it that, considering it has no eyes to be crossed in the first place...

My umbrella...
My umbrella is named 'Jason', as are, um, squirrels.

We call our dog, Casper, a number of different things
like "C-Dog" or "Mr Doggles" and he's learnt that they refer to him, like your cats.

Animals are clever.

But not so clever. He still licks his own wee off his front leg after going pee-pee and missing whatever he's been aiming at.

I agree, they are clever...
... and "monsteros" still manages to get fucking kitty litter anywhere but in her litter tray, which in turn results in me getting the SuckySucky out.

So yes, not THAT clever.

We're clearly as mad as each other because
we call our dustbuster "Billy Sucking-Machine"

I'm not sure...
...whether to be happy that someone else is clearly as strange as me.

Or disturbed.

But then I was disturbed already!
