In Sainsbury's recentlyevery checkout person will ask me how I am, regardless of whether we've met previously or not. It's (or was for a while anyway) obviously corporate policy to do so, so I'm left torn between wanting to say "What the fuck do you care?" or just being polite because their job's on the line. That really messes with my head.
The other one is where the person behind the counter insists on addressing me as "sir". Any attempt to establish their relationship with me as subservient (for that is what it is) rather than as an equal human being also goes deeply against my grain. I fucking hate it.
