I'm here for you Batts

I'm here as well.
But I'm still undecided.

I'm going to have to see more
persuasive arguments

Evening Battered
I am on my 4th booze-free evening in a row. I think I shall see if I can't go a week. If I can have a week off the booze that totally proves I'm not an alcoholic.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:00, Reply)
You should have a week off the sauce
And then go on a massive session.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:00, Reply)
How about a week ON the sauce
then a massive bender?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:01, Reply)
Like Bobby?

lol

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:16, Reply)
And lo, it came to pass.......
the great Off Topic war of 2012. Each side brought forth a champion, the special one they could unite behind. The world watched, and held its breath, as the fate of humanity hung in the balance.

*gets popcorn, waits*
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:01, Reply)
Who is the opposition?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:03, Reply)
Monty, backed by Al, iirc.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:05, Reply)
I suspect Kroney will be better for bribes than
Monty. He also loves teh scifi.

Monty does have...erm...longer hair...?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:07, Reply)
And he's older than me
which means he can barely get up stairs without killing himself.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:17, Reply)
I just slipped on the stairs and skinned my knee
I'm not sure how this even happened. Does this make me an old person, now?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:03, Reply)
Oy!

What nonsense have I missed this time?
I expect it wasn't very exciting.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:12, Reply)
A pretend /ot mod competition with slogans and posters and such
It passed the time.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:17, Reply)
I voted for Nick Clegg.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:18, Reply)
I was right, then - not very exciting.

Now then Jeff.
Y'right?

Tired.
And browsing job boards.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:28, Reply)
Contract finished or are you looking at the next one?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:29, Reply)
Hasn't finished yet, but they are getting rid of people are quite a rate.
So I need to plan the next move!
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:31, Reply)
Fujitsu are taking on DBA's for HMRC up here at stupid money.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:34, Reply)
How stupid?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:35, Reply)
I have not forgotten to respond to the matter we discussed, been a bit occupied...

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:41, Reply)
No problem.
I've been busy myself.

How is life at Battered Towers?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:43, Reply)
Not bad ta. Busy: daughter has her first birthday in a couple of weeks, still need to arrange naming ceremony, gradually doing the home up before selling next year, evaluating business/ work stuff etc.
Plus I have purchased a bike (of the none motorised type sadly) so using that to try & get a bit fitter.

Yourself?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:47, Reply)
Kicking up the ashes of the project I'm working on to see if there are any flames of life left in it.
They are getting rid of contractors at quite a rate at the moment.

So I need to line up a new source of revenue. Made any decisions about where you'll go when you sell up?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:49, Reply)
It's an ongoing difficult debate. I expect we will compromise (I would like to be out of London) on somewhere like Richmond, if we can identify suitable schools.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:52, Reply)
I suppose you just need to balance schools, quality of life, potential income and property prices.
Should be simple! :-)
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 21:53, Reply)
London property is mental; next door, smaller, spec & condition not as good as Mrs Battered's just sold for £100k over the asking price.
Ridiculous.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:05, Reply)

You might be better off thinking of selling sooner rather than later, you could always downsize in the short term and get your daughter an investment property, the rental income from now would pay for Uni, and you'd probably still be mortgage clear in another house that needs work.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:07, Reply)
I agree. The wife needs some convincing.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:08, Reply)
If you think how property prices have changes over the last 35 years
Your daughter would need to be very fortunate to be able to buy her own place when she graduates without some help.

If you are in a position to put a couple of hundred grand in property for her now, I'd be amazed if that wasn't worth an absolute fortune when she needs it. And the income it would generate in the interim would probably pay for Uni and on-going repairs/decoration on the place.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:11, Reply)
I don't know
But I'm shifting £800-£1000 pcm apartments next to their hub like you don't know what.

Your average rental up here is £550pcm.

I wasn't far from Coventry this weekend just gone. Isn't that your part of the world?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:14, Reply)
Alright Jeff
It is indeed. You should have popped in for a pint.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:16, Reply)
I was in Sutton Coldfield.
That was a close as I dared venture.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:17, Reply)
Coventry is much nicer.
Well a bit.
Well, some of it.
Maybe.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:19, Reply)
I'm watching The Stock, Aitken and Waterman Story.
I don't know why.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:20, Reply)
Would you rather Jack?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:23, Reply)
Than Fleetwood Mac.

So have I now.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:33, Reply)
We claim Pete Waterman as a son of Coventry.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:23, Reply)
I'm pleased for you.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:28, Reply)
There was some debate as to whether he should be added to Coventry's Wall of Fame or not.
I don't think he has made it yet...
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:32, Reply)
Is it a wall, or just a few bricks?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:36, Reply)
I'm pretty sure it's a proper wall,
although I've never been there.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:41, Reply)
I do eat carrots.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:43, Reply)

THRILLING SUTTON COLDFIELD/COVENTRY RELATED ANECDOTE:
A while ago I was going to a trade show at the Ricoh Arena and our driver missed the relevant junction on the M6, so we wound up having to go all the way to Sutton Coldfield before we could turn back. As luck would have it there were plenty of places to turn around, but they were only accessible from the other carriageway.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:23, Reply)
This is a story so cool it should be stored in a vault at the south pole.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:24, Reply)
If I added another 1,500 words and padded it out with line breaks it'd be front-page QOTW material.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:26, Reply)
Pathetic how this site has ended up isn't it?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:27, Reply)
It's a sad state of affairs when merely being funny is not sufficient grounds for recognition on a site based around humour.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:31, Reply)
A site where one gets stepped for mentioning sheds, but not for joking about raping babies.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:33, Reply)
SHED!

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:36, Reply)
You called?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:37, Reply)
hahaha

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:39, Reply)
So you are Battered's sock?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:42, Reply)
If he is, it'll be a wet sock.
*Deacon shoes lolz*
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:43, Reply)
For some reason I have got in the habit of attempting Joey Deacon impressions when in the car with the wife.
She doesn't understand why. Nor do I.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:44, Reply)
Good work.
Get your daughter on it.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:51, Reply)
Kids love that sort of thing.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:52, Reply)
Aren't the lucky, having a Dad like you.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:54, Reply)
I think so
I can give them the benefit of my puerile sense of humour.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:56, Reply)
And the fact you are a Deacon.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:56, Reply)
*throws shoe*

Don't worry Batto, your secret is safe with me.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:48, Reply)
Pfft.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:51, Reply)
On the plus side, at least it's avoided the sad, undignifed fate of AnonTalk.
So far.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:38, Reply)
I feel that I should inform you
That for the duration of SUMMER 2012* you should refer to it as the Coventry Arena, as Ricoh are not official sponsors of LONDON 2012

*GO TEAM GB!!!
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:29, Reply)
This was in 2010, though.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:31, Reply)
You should take Tangled Junior to 'the football'
He'll appreciate all the other shite you make him do more then.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:32, Reply)
But what if he enjoyed it?
I don't want to go every week.
Even my friends with season tickets only go every week because there is a casino up there.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:37, Reply)
Is it any wonder Coventry City are skint in they've got a casino on site?

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:39, Reply)
I imagine that it is a better source of income than ticket sales.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:44, Reply)
And the money given to the players goes straight back to the club.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:52, Reply)
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORED

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:39, Reply)
Wotcha Captain.
Are you coming to London for the MEGA BASH?
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:40, Reply)
um
when is it? It's pretty unlikely if it's September/October as that is megabusy time
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:41, Reply)
It is around that time.
Check the calendar.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:42, Reply)
but it's at least a click away

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:43, Reply)
You can do it Cavy.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:43, Reply)
hmm
depending on how the term is going, it's not unpossible but there are issues of transport and accomodation which I'd have to deal with. I'll think about it
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:45, Reply)
by which
I am referring to the clicking of the link, not the bash itself
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:46, Reply)
heh.
Mega Bus. Beg a bed.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:52, Reply)
megabus only goes from Cardiff
which makes it a somewhat tortuous journey. National Express is OK as long as you aren't on a coach of noisy arseholes like I was last time.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:53, Reply)
fart lolz

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:55, Reply)
And you don't mind paying as much as the train fare (or more) for a journey that takes three times longer.

(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:57, Reply)
when I looked the other day
for a return for this week it was about £40 difference
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:58, Reply)
Rory's gaff isn't too far away
I'm sure he'd put you up for the night.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:57, Reply)
that would be cool
because we are bestest buddies
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 22:59, Reply)
Except you probably wouldn't make it to the bash
Because you and Rory would lose track of time, gossiping and plaiting each other's hair, etc.
(, Mon 6 Aug 2012, 23:00, Reply)
he does have lovely hair
and I did promise I'd do him a french plait with ribbons in
