ignore 2.0 in full effect.
I'm scared there is a whole load of threads everyday that i'm missing, yet also too scared to log out and find out what they're saying about me.

Been looking at a new housing development near the coast. Trouble is they are £380,000

Nice though. Important amenities nearby: pub, Indian, Chinese, Tesco

Who's the house builder?

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:08, Reply)
Charles Church

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:09, Reply)
Engineered joists (fji's) and a lot of C-stud.
Don't fucking touch it mate
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:11, Reply)
Which new builds aren't like that?
Our house looks like it was built by blind kids. Right angles not included
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:13, Reply)
Depends on what you want, all mid to large house builders use shit materials sourced at the lowest cost
Look for independant's that do 14 houses/converts but put pride and skill into it. £380k gives you big bang to the buck
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:15, Reply)
I would no more buy a mainstream new build house than I would seal up my own arsehole.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:21, Reply)
I used to inspect Bovis/Barratt/Bloor homes thats only the B's
The shoddy workmanship You would not believe
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:25, Reply)
Oh, I can believe it.
The lack of room space in many is also appalling.

+ tiny tiny windows

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:32, Reply)
You only see the glam. french doors and kitchen
Shit materials all through the tendor process
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:33, Reply)
I was at a house today that's maybe 15 years old and is already badly fucked.
It'll be worthless in another 10 years - not a bad area so it might warrant a major rebuild but the rent is low because of the condition, and that'll happen across the rest of the development, then it'll no longer be a nice area...
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:25, Reply)
Thats why I bought an 1880's town house
And renovated the shit out of it
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:31, Reply)
Mine is 100 years old either next year or the year after.
Having said that, a couple of my flats (1985 built) are really starting to show problems.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:37, Reply)
TD you got a cellar?

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:38, Reply)

House is on a steep hillside so I've a cellar in the front.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:41, Reply)

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:43, Reply)
I've been letting out property since 1995.
When I first bought this the kitchen had partially fallen into the cellar, which I've rectified.

Thanks, but I know my way round these things!
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:46, Reply)
Thats OK
If you need any help feel free to ask for advise
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:49, Reply)
It's now my business so I'm fairly well versed in these things.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:54, Reply)

Property? what part?
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:58, Reply)
Other than being an irresponsible slum landlord
I run - or rather, I am an inventory/check out person/business.

Because I am not RICS qualified I am unable to provide qualified structural assessments although my considered opinion is often accepted by passers by and other interested parties.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 21:04, Reply)
Thats often the case
If you have any issues that you're unsure, Feel free to gaz me
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 21:09, Reply)
I'd never pretend to be structurally qualified
But I know more than most letting agents so I can usually provide advice as part of the service.

Question requiring objective answer - silicone sealant in a wet room with no external ventilation. Your expected life before replacement?

I'm making potato in the jacket with butter and blue cheese.
I like the smaller ones 'cus then you get a better ratio of skin to potato guts.

Very little myself, to be honest
He had his moments, but I've never been entirely sure about either his commitment or his ability.

He belongs in the IPL, which I think is what he wants anyway.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:20, Reply)
Exactly, I say cut him loose and move on with some new talent
But the contracts that they sign with 'England' are mental, I can't think of another sport like it
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:23, Reply)
No, the central contract system is ridiculous and creates more problems than it resolves.
I think he's antagonised enough people this time round to be discharged though.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:27, Reply)
Reporting for duty.
Just back from a couple of pints with an old mate. Dear me, I feel utterly fucked.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:10, Reply)

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:12, Reply)
I've only had two pints.
Mind you, it was well after 1am when I got to bed this morning and I didn't have the greatest night's sleep. I have to go drinking for my leaving do tomorrow. I may end up cabbaged by about 8pm.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:14, Reply)
You is well old

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:16, Reply)
Innit Bro

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:17, Reply)
Tell me about it, Nakers.
My trouble is, I think "Oh, I'm a bit tired, I'll have an early night". Then I get a second wind at about 10pm, and I'm not one of these people who nods off as soon as their head hits the pillow, so I stay up a bit longer. It's well shit.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:18, Reply)
If th wife and sproglet aren't about I'm rubbish at going to bed
But when in do in sleep like a log. Last weekend I got 2:30 hrs sleep on sat night and that was a miserable Sunday, I almost fell asleep in the pub!
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:20, Reply)
Because I'm out all day and don't get much chance to have my own space
I often unwind after everyone's gone to bed by sticking a DVD on, which doesn't help either. Thank god for flexi time.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:24, Reply)
I love my own space, in the pub alone now before the cinema
Couldnt be happier

One of my colleagues was telling me today
about one of his friend's sisters who had a massive sleepwalking problem and accidentally hung herself one night.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:20, Reply)
*hanged
That's awful though, I would sleep walk when I was a kid, even made a sandwich once and watched telly
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:22, Reply)
I'm tired, Nakers.
Cut me some slack. But yeah, pretty grim all the same.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:24, Reply)
I don't get many opportunities to be right about language
I have to take all I can!

Edit: say hi to beegeebee when she comes over, or was that last week?
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:27, Reply)
In other news, a mate of mine had to cut his neighbour's wife down after she'd hanged herself a few years ago.
I'll bet those scars run a little deep.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:29, Reply)
Fuck...I appreciate one might not be in the best frame of mind, but at least pop out to the local wood

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:30, Reply)
His girlfriend spent 20 minutes trying to give her mouth to mouth and CPR as well.
She doesn't really talk about it.

I have a few mates who are train drivers
Two have 20+ years service and have never seen one.

One has about 10 years and has had three "under". Not nice.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 20:34, Reply)
