That is definitely true what you said about not knowing what to aim for. I personally prefer to do my perception-altering by software-means instead of hardware-means if you know what I mean. However, I've read plenty of accounts. I'm aware I may never even scratch the surface, but using my arsenal of insights I have in myself, the way the brain works, and other geeky stuff, I like to give myself the intellectual (and sometimes spiritual) challenge of immagining what it would be like.
