This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

cross sections of macaroni cheese
Cross-sections of anything that leaves hollow tubes in the cross section. EEEAAAGHHRRRRHHHHhhhhh.

Has to be moist though - dry cross-sections aren't nail-pullingly awful. Honeycomb is okay, for example, because it's not overly moist. Cross-sections of macaroni cheese make me want to rip my veins out though.

Moist, hollow tubes
and salty chewing gum?

You're on a Freudian roll this week CHCB.

I swear
this is true.

Any resemblance to the findings of a bearded Jewish Austrian shrink are completely coincidental.

I'm worried now.

*worries*

Again...
Freud and all things rude spring to mind!

p.s. my apostrophe poo was bendy.

@CHCB
"Sho, tell me about your mother" ... "hmmm."

On a semi-related note:

Edmund (for 'tis he) to psychiatrist : "Don't worry, it's nothing Oedipal"
Psychiatrist to Edmund : "Ah, everything's Oedipal!" (looks sagely over glasses)

Ooh, Ooh!
How about dodgy cheap cuts of meat with strange tubes in? I remember a radio phone in when they were talking about this (think the original subject was school dinners), and that one made me a bit queasy.

@ fireflier
That is gross - what are those bits? They have to be bleached arterial / venous bits of yak..?
(, Thu 10 Apr 2008, 14:08, closed)
I can understand that...
It's the reason why I don't eat liver. Not that I don't like the flavour - I do. It's just the tubes. Eugh...

Unfortunately, CHCB
If you rip your veins out, you'll notice that they're rather moist, and have a hollow tube cross-section. This may cause you to indulge in further vein ripping, which I'd advise against for the sake of your health.
(, Thu 10 Apr 2008, 14:08, closed)
^ maybe
that's why I want to rip my veins out; because it reminds me of veins...
(, Thu 10 Apr 2008, 14:09, closed)
Have to confess...
...that I've never seen the icky-ness myself, and I'm very glad about it. But the people on the radio seemed very adamant about it, and the concensus generaly seemed to be "very cheap meat" (you know, like those confections dubiously described as "Meat Pies/curries" as opposed to "named meat pies/curries".

Mind you - I like the yak idea. They didn't serve yak at my school...

Fancy a yak sandwich now - oh well, off to the local Tibetan deli

a-ha!
"that's why I want to rip my veins out; because it reminds me of veins..."

ahhh.

A tautology a day helps you work, rest and play.

@Edmund
'It' in this context was referring to the macaroni in the original posting.

cross sections of macaroni cheese
Yes! Horrific! I saw a photo of wrong way canellonni in a Jamie Oliver cookbook recently - the tubes were stuck on their ends facing UP from the pot - and it made me feel really very unpleasant and queasy. Normally arranged canellonni is okay because a) it's horizontal and b) there's only one layer. Fact.

Macaroni
It's a little known fact that Macaroni is made from chopped up bleached sections of cow arteries.

Oooooooooo
I so get that.

Also, for me its anything roundish, grouped together: cells, ant eggs, fish eggs

blurgh!

actually...
...this is reminding me of an actual story of a drunken suicide attempt this local guy did in front of an-ex girlfriend... He started carving up his arms with a kitchen knife and then pulling his own veiny arm tubes out in front of her...

... i feel sick again now, just thought i'd share...

This
is by far the strangest fear i've heard of. Awesome.
