This is a question Worst Band Ever

If I was in charge of the B3ta fatwa department, we wouldn't be hearing too much from Simply Red in the future. Who's on your musical shit list and why?

Ironically
I like any piece of music with tubular bells on, apart from Tubular Bells.

"Amarok" is excellent though.
Partly because it was the point at which he finally pulled his finger out and made a record which was technically accomplished, appealed to the fans and yet was completely unmarketable, and also because it's got some genuine laugh-out-loud moments (e.g. the cameo from Maggie Thatcher.)

listening....
Theres a bit of everything in there, including nice farty noises! Reminds me of the psy/ambient/world/chillout stuff used to listen to after a hard nights stompin' "back in the day" (I hate myself for using that phrase).
ears open :)

I love "Amarok"
My dad is a huge Oldfield fan so I grew up in a house full of his music. "Amarok" is still brilliant today, as is "Ommadawn". As for "Tubular Bells" it's good but he's done a lot better, including "Tubular Bells 3" which for me was the best of the series.

so...
why is it that they put Tubular Bells on these 'chill out' albums when all I cna think about when I hear it is the Exocist....

It's easy to be cynical
but let's not forget that Tubular Bells was a phenomenon that helped change the face of music in the 70s. It also pretty much launched the empire of a certain Mr Branson. Sneering at a product nearly 40 years old isn't cool or clever. Give me one example from current times that is as important or influential and that is liked by many more than dislike it?

This ^^
Totally agree.

As pointed out many a time in this passionate qotw subject, promotion to mass audience is they key. I just don't dig the sounds and melody man... I am chortleing away to "Moonlight Shadow (shadow)" though :D
