made a big thing about the him actually saying "I am a doughnut" rather than his intended "I am also an inhabitant of berlin" as have many before - but i don t think any ive herd as funny as Mr Izzard

he said "I am a sausage".
"Ein Berliner" is "One Sausage*", literally translated.
He should have said "Ich bin Berlinerich", which would have meant "I am a Berliner".
I suppose our American friends had to turn it into a donut so the populace would understand.
