# You are way closer to the truth that you probably know
He is an actual manufactured comedian. He has his stuff written for him. Part of a new breed following the money.

# Oh I know mate
did my homework. Plus I'm a stand-up as well so it sticks in my craw a bit

# a NEW breed?
Nope.

Morecambe and Wise used to get Eddie Braben to write most of their stuff.

Bob Monkhouse started out writing gags for the likes of Arthur Askey, Jimmy Edwards, Ted Ray and Max Miller (all well in the black & white era) and also submitted stuff to Bob Hope.

It's probably a more recent development to write all your own material as a stand-up (in much the same way as few solo singers used to write their own songs before the 1960s, and many still don't).

it's still wank, but it's old wank

# I'm not sure it's such a bad thing.
Like manufactured music, you sometimes get some great writers who use the performer as a puppet.

There must be lots of good writers who don't have the confidence to perform, and that sort of comedian is a good outlet for their work.

That said, I can't see how a stand up can take that much pride in delivering someone else's lines.
