# Star Wars beats Empire?
The original is self-contained, by comparison.
Empire opened it out into something grand and sweeping - and few films have made the three years that followed seem like a veritable lifetime.

# the original is a self-contained story, yes
this is rather the point of them.

empire is merely a transistion film to facilitate jedi. it's a whore's movie, an exercise in cash-generation. in fact empire royally fucks the story by introducing the father/son nonsense that ruins the plausibility of the first movie, and spawned a whole generation sci-fi idiots who do things like this: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

# I guess the nine year old version of me that saw it was far more impressionable than the six year old version that saw Star Wars.
But the three years of possibility that existed between Empire and Return are etched into my memory like no other gap between filmic sequels.
Would 'Dawn of The Dead' be a better fit?

# I quite liked star wars when I first saw it at about the age of 10.
I was less keen on the next one, and didn't bother watching any more.
It is absolutely beyond me why any grown-up would consider them anything more than a reasonably good kids' film and merchandising opportunity.

edit: and lols @ 'ruins the plausibility of the first movie'
