I didn't realise until I read on Blankipedia about the whole story behind these,the incestuous relationship with the stepfather and the smallpox virus, the viewer's DNA being re-coded by watching the video ... all that stuff makes the films make a lot more sense. I never saw the remake The Ring Virus but apparently it's all better explained in that, without the need for supplementary mangas
