# Yay - I like the second thread :D

# the second one was a lot easier
I cloned areas where the guy was not present until I got a clean background layer.

Then I erased the background from each layer where the subject was progressing (50 of them in this case).

Then, along with the clean background layer, I displayed every 10th layer so I could see 5 instances of the moving subject. This was copied to a single frame.

I repeated this 9 more times while displaying the next 'every 10th layer'

1) xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0
2) xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0x
3) xxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xx
4) xxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxx
5) xxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxx
6) xxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxx0xxxxxxxxx0xxxxx
etc...

when I was done, I had 10 layers that endlessly looped. One nice thing about this type of image is that you can present 50 different positions of motion with only 10 layers

# I think that makes sense
but I ain't trying it ;)

# if I can find the PSD file from which I was working, I can link that
a picture and a thousand words and all that, you know...

# this is a different pic, but it's the same procedure and effect..

you can hide all but 2 layers anywhere to see how the 'difference' layer blending makes alignment easier

Piece of piss really innit!

# Ah ok I see now :D
Ta!

# also, the first one is kind of hard to explain, but it involes temporarily blending supersequent and subsequent layers by 'difference'
...this facilitates more accurate alignment with the layer below as the upper layer is being rotated and aligned with the layer below.

the see-saw effect is just a matter of making the sure that the subject is aligned in the middle and copying the sequence of layers (mirrored and reversed for the 2nd half of the animation)

EDIT: depending on the size of the original GIF I will sometimes increase the dimensions of the entire set of images by 400% to make for even more accurate alignment of frames. When it is all done, I will then reduce it back to the original dimensions

# I think I kinda get ya.
Will give it a go! :D
