Someone......once said that if CBS had been in charge of WWII, it would have been taken off after six weeks, but if the BBC had been running it, it would still have been going in 1967.

They have that backwards.It's the Americans who drag out an idea long past the point where the humour has evaporated and there's naught left but fart jokes and canned laughter. We're the ones who do a dozen or so episodes then murder the lead actor and burn down the sets.
