I meant ...
... it's a duck - so it's a noun not a verb, and it is a cover for the bloke so, again a noun not a verb. Otherwise, you would have been spot on

My point was
simply that there is no good reason for the verb 'duck' sharing a word with a duck. Until now; since it is apparant that the verb was created because ducks contain ducking men.

not quite true.
The movement of duck (verb), ie. lowering head/body, pushing people underwater, etc, all are reminiscent of the movement of a duck.
The only other example I can think of at the moment is "fox"
