my 5 year old nephew has read it on his own... as has been said by librarians and literary notables, if it gets kids to read, it can't be all bad!

he's never once mentioned any of the toys - in fact I've never met a kid that wanted any of the harry potter toys, they'd much rather have a real broom ;)
