# The truth about the Great White.


...by the way, I was wondering if anyone has compiled their experiences with getting chosen for FP, maybe in a previous post? I've been trying like mad, making many of my posts 280 px's wide, and generally working hard on making good posts, but I never seem to get it quite right. Is there something special that the Magic Donkey looks for that I'm totally missing, or are my posts just too lame? Any insight will be greatly appreciated =) All my previous posts are in my profile (except for a few lame ones that are hopefully lost in the archives).

(And no, this is not some wacky scheme to get people to look at my stuff, I am genuinely curious).

Oh, and just so people don't think I'm a Fame Whore: my purpose in here is not to get an FP. I take tremendous joy from the comments people give my posts, and that is more than enough for little ol' me. That, and of course all the things all you guys post; this is a truly beautiful place. It's just that it would be really cool to have an FP =D

is that things you work on for ages usually take more time to appreciate, whereas ideas you have that you can put together in 5 minutes have more of the instant laughability appeal that gets chosen for the front page.
Plus spending 5 mins on it you're not expecting it at all to get frontpaged because you aren't really trying for it.

and there is no law, I've made numerous realy realy funny and good pics and the crap ones always end up FP'd.* There is no law its just down to whos moderating and if they like it.

you have enough hummus to make the front page some day and probably not that far away either.

At the end of the day it's what captures people's attentions. Animations tend to be more effective due to the movement. Both of my front pages are anims. Other FPs are stills of exceptional quality (eg HumanDescent's work) or because they tickle someone's funny bone (eg Kitty Meow Meow's trip GIF that tells the tale of getting to a b3ta bash in London).

The best thing to do is watch what other people are making and what gets favourable comments. Those pics are the ones with the special qualities that a) get positive feedback and b) get FP'd!

the secret is spend hours and hours doing a great idea which you think everyone will love. Post it and then while waiting for the FP to arrive make a quick and dirty pic involving a kitten that takes about 2 seconds and post it. That'll FP and the masterpiece you made earlier will be largely ignored.
