# Leeds, the place where the sun don't shine
As I have it on good authority from a friend who lived there for many years.

But now a little story....
We were going to see a production of Macbeth in Leeds, which is about 1h45 from the school, so we set off in good weather, as we got further North the skies grew cloudier and cloudier, until, just as we passing a sign saying 'Welcome to Leeds' it began to piss down mightily.

# Leeds is all right
it's Sheffield that's the proper shithole. And Bradford
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:32, archived)
# i agree
although leeds has no decent swimming facilities (unless there's a flood)

# have you been in there?
its crustier than a whelk's armpit,

people vomit from going in from the chlorine.

# ahh yes

(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:55, archived)
# Doesn't it have the only Olympic pool in Yorkshire?
Don't use Keighley Pool - my brother works there.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:38, archived)
# No it doesn't
Sheffield has an Olympic sized pool - built for the world student games.
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:42, archived)
# leeds pool is awful
its getting knocked down soon

(subject to planning permission)
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:46, archived)
# Well speaking as a Sheffielder...
Leeds is a fucking dump ;o)

Nah, if you go to the right places anywhere, it can be a shithole or nice. (I hope...)

# As a fellow Sheffielder
I also say down with Leeds!!!

(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:39, archived)
# I remember thinking
that it seemed that everyone I saw had a really small chin as well. I can't believe that's true of the place in general, but the memory seems to have stuck!
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:41, archived)
# i was being a little ott there
but theres at least 10 people that circumnavigate the town centre every day. its as if they closed the mental home down.

# my brother went to sheffield hallam uni for an open day
got mugged twice in an hour by the same bloke!

100% OF FACT

# he got mugged the first time on his way to the uni
he took my bro's mobile.

THEN: upon walking across the campus to one of the lectures, the same guy pulled up in a car and nicked his cd player

# I'm probably biased
I was staying round the corner from the Sheffield United ground.. that is the crappest area I've ever seen
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:36, archived)
# Nah, it's not good round there (speaking as a United fan!)
but you want to go up Manor Top or Parsons Cross or somewhere like that. Frightening!
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:37, archived)
# Ahhh the Manor
Oh how i miss my home town.....:(

# don valley area
everyone there is a sodding knuckledragger
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:44, archived)
# True
it's like anywhere - I've never seen as many rough people as I did in Sunderland but i still really like the place. And Sheffield is my home town and we've been shit on by Leeds since forever - we are doing a good job of making a space for ourselves in the world.

mmmm...maybe I'm getting a little too involved here....
(, Thu 4 Sep 2003, 16:47, archived)
# i agree
