not every penalty is a given goalbut the goalie should have to make a fantastic, brilliant save for it not to be a goal. Barthez's save was ordinary. He dived the right way and easily got his hands to it.

Technically no,the goal wasn't required, we could have won 1-0, but any team 2 goals down on 90 minutes will tend to give up a bit, even France. And any donkey strikers whose team are 2 goals up don't tend to track back and try to defend much.
