# I say Frunt, give me a tip please?
On how to get it isometric ... do you just count one pixel to be 2 across and 1 down?
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:25, archived)
# that's an important part of it, yes
am just learning meself, mostly using http://rhysd.syntesis.org/tutorial/.
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:28, archived)
# Wonderful, it's exactly how i thought, thank you.
I may or may not, but probably i shall never get around to it, try some myself.

# this is nice
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:33, archived)
# yup
that's the other one I was using. it's also very good.

# I'd recommend using paint, or pixen on a mac
line tool saves much time, but the one in tattyshop ain't right for the job.

however, have switched this to tattyshop and am now labouring away doing all my lines in pencil, because I want to be able to group my layers.

# you need a 1 pixel pencil
in photoshop - then its a lot easier. Also turn off antialiasing for everything - selections, fills, everything. That might be why you don't like it. Its actually great for pixel stuff - or i think so anyway :)
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:38, archived)
# antialiasing!
I didn't even think of that.

that'd make things much simpler.

edit: having looked at your profile, I note that you definitely know what you're on about. found your websites via blogjam a while back. citycreator's what got me going in this direction. so, er, thanks... I guess. ;)
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:40, archived)
# it really does.
no one ever seems to mention it either - although i did! I mentioned it in my nice tutorial. but Its not online, so its... no use to you.

edit - ah - thats nice - thank you. I would offer help, but to be honest i don't think you need it. Best advice i can ever give really is look at other people's stuff - enlarge it so you can see how they did it and try and do the same. Especially for shading. I'm still not great at proper shading - its an art in itself.
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:43, archived)
# tell me about it
have just now noticed that I have two different light sources depending on whether you look at my shadows or my wall colours... *sigh*

I think once you've got the basics it's mostly a question of copying when you get stuck. Same as so much in life.
(, Sat 21 Jan 2006, 14:49, archived)
# yeah - that happens to me too
you could draw a lightbulb on a layer and keep it in one corner while you work to remind you. Some people recommend that.

This forum is good for pixel stuff: www.pixeljoint.com/forum/
its more for game graphics than isometric stuff (sometimes they can be a bit mean to the iso newbies) but its worth a quick look if you have some time.
