i should be there for about 8, depending on how regular the buses are from the city centre to the cricket ground. Is it walkable?

It's semi-walkable, but would probably take an hour or more.
You can, however, get the 62/63, and get off about 4 or so stops before Selly Oak (or something like that). The buses are quite regular. I don't think that I shall be there until around that time now, either - i'm stranded at my parents place until this evening. Give me a second, and i'll find a map for you.

Edit : Bah, googlemaps is messing up for me. The MAC is on Edgebaston Road, is right by Cannon Hill Park, and is opposite Edgebaston Cricket Ground.

I'm unsure, but I think that the #1 goes right past the MAC.
