Here's the general layout. It's a lot of form, but I'm hoping to balance that with good substance.
The left and right arrows scroll through images, while the movie frame button opens the gallery
of images from that project, or plays the accompanying video, if applicable.
The white area with the words changes as you scoll through. There is an image/video index
button at the top right for ease of use (sort of like a site map), and the logo in the bottom left
leads to my main page.
Can anyone think of any suggestions? I'd like to utilize the large yellow area more. I was
thinking of putting update news there, or would that look too busy with the other text so close?
Thanks.

Seems straightforward enough. Keep the slightly minty slug, sounds like a winner :)

That empty space seems to bother me, as it breaks up the outline.

If you have a long title it could look cluttered, if short it could look empty. Six of one half a dozen of the other innit?

size/pixels/copyright notice in small writing to break the space up a little.

I think there would be too much yellow if it filled a 1280x1024 screen but if it was a flash or a limited size page then it would be fine i think to leave the amount of yellow. Other than that i like the ideas you've put down, looks easy to use and nice to look at.
I think the contents just right as it is...
POO OMG LOL CHEESE ANUS!

I'm not a big fan of none standard layouts since they are too difficult to control especially with all the different browsers out there. Inevitably you'll encounter two or three different browsers that will mong up where the text is placed within the circular area even if you do stick with strict XHTML and CSS 2.1
You may wish to check out the Web site:
www.webpagesthatsuck.com for suggestions as what not to do with user interfaces (not that I'm suggesting your design sucks). They have a term called mystery meat navigation which is what you're doing with your arrows. Basically what you're doing is hiding all of the menu selections which is not a good thing to do since the user cannot see the selections which could be 100 or 10 or 3.
Just my 0.02

stick witht eh fundamental layouts people are used to, if you want people to hang about - infinate choice = short attention span.
Tweak about with the menus, but keep them fundamentally traditional.
I like the arrows bit.

I get what you mean though. I might do something to draw more attention to the index button, so it seems like a main part of the page instead of just an extra bit added on.
