New labour ditched a lot of the old-style socialist valuessuch as nationalisation, reduced links with trade unions, ditched any commitment to building social housing, and effectively became Tory Lite.
With this we're back to the unenviable situation that the only political parties with strong left-wing values are minor players and unlikely to influence UK politics massively.
