It seems to me you Brits aren't like the left much.
Ironically, over here they just gained a lot of force in recent elections.
Edit: in what way does "new labour" differ from "old labour"?

New labour ditched a lot of the old-style socialist values
such as nationalisation, reduced links with trade unions, ditched any commitment to building social housing, and effectively became Tory Lite.
With this we're back to the unenviable situation that the only political parties with strong left-wing values are minor players and unlikely to influence UK politics massively.

New Labour = Old Tories.
To be honest, I stopped thinking of Labour as The Left a long time ago...

old labour are socialist, and represent the unions
new labour are populist, and don't have such a clear agenda.
whether or not this is a good thing is debatable. where do you hail from?
