# It depends what codec the avi is

Right click on the avi and go to Properties and then the advanced properties tab. See if it says what codec it it using.

Then search for that codec online and install it.

It is a bit odd as if your machine can run the file it must be installed.........

try opening the avi up in something like VirtualDub (free avi editor). Chances are its actually your file not the software.
