Alrighty... let me explainIt's a reference to Star Wars Galaxies (SWG).
John Smedley is the president of Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) which on November 14th 2005 launched the New Game Enhancements (NGE) on the player-base of SWG. Out went the profession diversity and mix-and-match skills that was previously there (32 fun professions) to be replaced by NINE 'iconic' professions.
The whole game changed, the combat, the controls, the interface - EVERYTHING was changed. Apparently 'focus groups' indicated that the NGE was needed. Did SOE actually bother to listen to the subscribers and existing player-base? did they fuck. they utterly ignored the entire subscriber base and pushed the NGE on the live servers.
Overnight entire communities vanished and the live servers became a barren place populated by frustrated and seething players who had to cope with a new and confusing system.
