That part of the Thames runs south to north
So I think you are actually facing toward the west there and the left would be the south. Its taken from the London eye I think.

I think it's just an illusion
because of the meander in the river. The angle of the photographer, the Houses of Parliament and battersea power station are actually roughly in a line.
