I'm too new to take sides......but it looks to me like you're wrong. The pic the guy posted [ here ] of the original, and his sketch side by side is either genuine or a pretty fucking woo-full 'shop in its own right.
Originally, without reference to the original, one might be forgiven for thinking it was a filter (which is, as HT has pointed out, quite a compliment to Laser chappy). Now, however, I think it's a case of 'when in hole, stop digging'.
Best thing now is to set your jaw, admit you were mistaken, and take it like a grown up.
