I meant best Dylan video.
I really cant think of a better song by Dylan. Well, not one that he's done the best verion of.

Like Leonard Cohen
Dylan's songs are great, but done far better by other people (generally musicians).

Yeah I suppose.
Although there are some brilliant Cohen songs that I can only imagine him singing well. Like Sisters of Mercy and Suzanne. Oh and So Long Marianne.
But your point is valid if only for Hallelujah....

Tom Waites and Suzanne Vega do an excellent version of that on a CD called Bleeker Street.

Soz - "Hold On, Marianne"
Far superior to the James cover.
Mind - so is mine, and I have all the musical ability of The Bible.

Right.
I'm glad that we've finally got 'round to the subject of covers.
I am, right now, completely pissed off by that fucking Kate Rusby singing Village Green Preservation Society.
I don't want to sound like an old duffer but I haven't heard a SINGLE reference to The Kinks.
Why is this?

I have to disagree
It's true, a lot of his famous songs have been done differently, and in some cases better, but there's a lot more to him than Tambourine Man and All Along the Watchtower.
I have 4GB of Dylan songs on my computer, with a lot of excellent songs I'd never heard before and some utter shite from the 80s (License to Kill, ugh)

I Just Want To Be Friends With You, Knocking On Heavens Door, Highway 61, Stuck Inside a Mobile
all rank higher with me.
Subteranian is a good snap shot for what he was and was good for at that time.

there are a lot of better dylan songs in my opinion
The Hurricane, Ballad of a thin man, Bob Dylan's dream, Tombstone Blues, Stuck inside of Mobile, Highway 61, Motorpsycho Nightmare...
Subterranean Homesick Blues is fucking ace though.

To you and Hanke,
You both may be right. I have a real bee in my bonnet about Dylan since I saw him live. He was utter shite and I was never really his biggest fan before that anyway. Much prefer Neil Young :)

bah, neil young went shite in the 80s, I much prefer his early stuff
Dylan is awful live these days, I got the dylan mtv unplugged dvd for xmas, and it was shit, properly shit.
However, I did also get the bob dylan at newport dvd which is really quite awesome.

Youre not far off there.
But I am liking some of the stuff hes producing now though, not all of it, but some. Dylan was the biggest pile of shit Ive ever seen! He only played 3 of his famous songs and they were for the encore. Now dont get me wrong, I am not one of these dicks who goes to see people hoping for a greatest hits, but the fact is he was playing a lot of his really bad stuff that no-one knows.
