[challenge entry] I will post this...
...as a warning to everyone attempting Larson mash-ups;

His lawyers are watching. And tireless. I had to make do with this facsimile recently after an email from his lawyers, who objected to my use of the original as a single hyperlinked point of reference in this article.

Normally I wouldn't mind at all when an artist seeks to protect his/her 'children', and ordinarily I wouldn't take liberties like hosting an original work myself... but Larson is a big part of Western culture and quoting Larson isn't the same as quoting other common cultural giants such as the Simpsons; often, you have to *see* the cartoon.

And there's no online archive of any kind from Larson. And his lawyers are constantly hoovering up any escapees.

Even if the only way to share Larson with others from time to time was to link to an individual cartoon on his website, I WOULD STILL WANT TO DO THIS.

In fact, I imagine I would do it quite a lot.

But I can't – and I think that sucks just a wee bit.

Rant over. Sorry to be so unfunny. Here, as an apology, is a rare glimpse into my brief 'career' as a published cartoonist:

# entirely different situation

also recently had a run with that git 'Guido Fawkes', who regularly lies his arse off about other people, but the moment he thinks he's been maligned in some way - *bang* - lawyers are on the case.

edit: I'd say more, but wouldn't want Rob to get a letter, too. Paul 'Guido Fawkes' Staines is such a sensitive flower.

# to a degree its understandable
who on earth would want to pay for the books/calendars/etc when its all free on the internet?

The web has denied him a massive amount of his original income. I'd be well pissed if some geeky twats stole my pension

# my point is
that a lot of sharing that goes on can easily be avoided by channeling it through his site, but for some reason he refuses to do this.
