I thought the first film was cast brilliantly. Him and Richards were perfect for their parts.

On the sequels... if Verhoeven isn't directing I don't wanna know.

Oh, dont get me wrong, I loved the first movie, and yes, they suited their parts
but go have a look at the trailer for the 3rd film (ST Marauder) and see just how cringe-worthy he can be... :D

yeah, whoever directed the second one, didn't really get what the first one was on about
it's not just war is hell, bollocks, it's about the incompetance and highly questionable motives of those in command during any war.

whoever directed SST 2 probably thinks Catch 22 is a hard hitting documentary.

I love that
when you get a really great, surprisingly layered film like SST or Tremors, and the sequel is directed/scripted by someone whose entire grasp of the first film was "they fight bugs in space and they have guns and shit" or "worms underground are scary".

I've chosen a terrible example there, as tremors two was actually quite fun.
