Personally
I like the olympics and as a leading developed country, I think we should take our turn and am happy we got it.
If everyone stopped moaning and got behind it, it'd be a whole lot more successful and something we could be proud of.

i often wonder how many of the whiners would go to watch it if it was on somewhere else, same applies to any major sporting, cultural or ceremonial event

I've decided to be largely supportive
of absolutely fucking everything, just cos I'm sick of the whinging attitude towards everything that the majority of the country has adopted.

you and me both
the whingers can just shut up and sit in the corner and sulk. this is a bloody wonderful country, with lots of marvellous and talented people in it, it's not short of a bob or two either so lets make some noise and show off a bit.
we should perhaps refrain from trying to reclaim the empire though, that'll only end in tears.

I'm with you on the leading developed country
At least you have enough electricity to meet the country's needs.
Which is important really for hosting big things.

I don't understand why we need to 'take our turn'
That presupposes that we actually need a massive event where 'adults' run in circles and jump over things. If we're going to do our bit as a leading developed country, perhaps this should take the form of giving the money to nations where people can't afford to eat and not having the running in circles.
