# After seeing the pisspoor excuse for a turnout in my area in the last election...
I would make it compulsory.

# ^this
Many countries do already

# I want to know how this works
because my instinctive reaction to compulsory voting is that uninformed twats (as a whole) would decide the vote

yet it must work in countries that have it

# Bloody democracies ;)

# It's compulsory in Australia
On one hand, politicians don't just pander to old people or special interest groups "because they're the only ones that vote", but on the other hand it turns into a bit of a popularity contest sometimes.

# see, that kinda makes sense
I tend to think that Britain is one of the most politically apathetic nations there is because we are becoming a bit lazy and selfish
(, Fri 14 Aug 2009, 11:44, archived)
# Aye.
Make it compulsory with a none of the above option.

When the politicians see a majority of people don't want any of them it might make them sit up and take stock of what they are doing.

# this happens in real life
or was i just watching Brewsters Millions the other day ;)
(i can't separate reality from fiction at all these days)
(, Fri 14 Aug 2009, 11:15, archived)
# Yes, like me, you were watching Brewster's Millions on Sunday :D
However, that was different from my proposal as that was just another party.

With the none of the above section, it would just be registered abstinence.

# i've always thought it was a good idea
and as soon as i'm voted into power it'll be the first thing i'll change ;)

# simple, to the point, ace
(, Fri 14 Aug 2009, 11:14, archived)
# good thinking!
*edit* I'm a TWAT - ignore me.

Just as Toasty says - yours was more simplistic and to the point, hence more effective

# Not all politicians are that bad
Our local councillor keeps us updated every month with a newsletter, whereas all of the aprty twunts we see about a week before the election.

Also, have this pearoast of Blair and Brown mashed together. Kinda looks like a Merkin:

# Greg Rusedski?
(, Fri 14 Aug 2009, 11:19, archived)
# Oh. Merkin
American, thought you meant a pubic wig. Of course, both assumptions are valid.
(, Fri 14 Aug 2009, 11:22, archived)
# Anyway, Greg Rusedski isn't American.
He's British*
