# Newsletter Boozy Drawings test (apols for the long post)
5.00pm Completely sober, control picture. Drawn on A6 pad in 10 minutes. Drinking starts in an hour or so.

6.45pm very large glass of red wine on an empty stomach to get things moving. Immediately sense that positioning/scaling of the image is harder, but could just be my imagination/difference between drawing from scratch and trying to copy something.

7.05pm Quick second large glass before food, scaling not an issue, brain possibly adapted to the shift in perspective. not noticing further changes

7.45pm Food eaten (Lasagne and Garlic Bread in case you were wondering) with a couple more glasses

8.30pm Another double/large one. god this isn't doing anything

9.05pm 2 bottles of red wine down, only real change is I forgot to put the reflection on the rocket window!

10pm Changing to beer in a bid to upset things, one large bottle of Perroni down, missed the window reflection again but still not much change

11.10pm last one, second large bottle of Peroni down, slightly scratchy lines but otherwise much the same, giving up and watching the rest of Spinal Tap

The morning after - 8.40am, headache, cup of tea. less rough than final one of the night before, but painful to draw.

Overall conclusion, booze doesn't have much effect, boredom kicks in long before comedy wobbly lines which has just as much an effect on quality as an extra glass or pint.
If you want crazy apeshit drawings then I think mind altering substances are the only way forward.

In case you wondered if I'd just shopped some changes and hadn't actually drawn that many, here they all are:

and for those who also thought, I should have actually done it as an animation....

# I'm fairly sure it isn't science without a graph.
:D

# I think repeatedly drawing a graph would have got more varied results

# I also think you should've drunk quicker. That always gets the stumblies going.

# I did half a bottle of wine on an empty stomach
in 25 minutes, that's pretty good going for someone my age

# even when drunk
you can still draw acerer than me.

Strange though, innit - no matter how drunk i get, i always have an instinct to do routine things such as lock the front door, take my contact lenses out etc...

# I like how he gets lovehandles half way through the night.

# Also, one thing that would be interesting would be copying the last picture you drew
Then you see the progressive drunkenness and the drawing may deteriorate more (just for effect though, it's a lot less sciency)

# Were you there when we did that with that stupid face I used to draw at school?
That got CRAZY.
(, Sat 5 Sep 2009, 15:34, archived)
# That is quite impressive.
You have steady drunkhands.

# Nice experiment

But you can tell us. You just wanted an excuse to booze it up, innit
(, Sat 5 Sep 2009, 15:39, archived)
# I don't need no stinking excuses
*slurp*

# WHEE!
Thats awesome. I was going to try that myself, but unfortunately our Mario Kart Wii drinking game sort of got in the way >.<

Even after superboozing you have some phat art skillz.

# ahhhh, that's more to it....
I was thinking while drawing how weirdly therapeutic and de-drunking the repetetive drawing was. Because its a fairly slow procedural thing its easy for the brain to focus on.

Game playing skills on the other hand are easily diminished by booze as it knackers your reaction time.

# Haha
I'm sure if i had any form of artistic skills i would agree...

Correct, it was made especially hard as we had the AI on hard and our tipples of choice were malibu, vodka and rum (in poncy-ness order from girly to many) it actually made us concentrate a lot on winning.

Fucking blue shells.

# i had two large wines
before starting the dragon down there \/
booze doesn't make to much of a difference, one or two can even help a bit, at least in getting over the initial blank page problem.
no idea what effect other subtances would have, but i've played scrabble stoned and still done rather well.

was produced by animators cycling shots of absinthe and espresso.
