I know it's old footage, but he turned up to so many of his gigs absolutely steaming drunk or ripped out his tits on heroin, including the one I went to, that he could barely function at all, so I reckon what he should do is...

drunk, possibly, stoned on pot, probably, though he had a reputation for delivering a hard working long live set so you must have caught him on a bad day. I caught him in Vancouver in 95 or 96, and he was in fine form
