I once saw a guy shovelling pound coins at a rate of about ten a minute into a fruit machine at a casino, whilst his missus was heavily berating him. After about 15 minutes he won the £1k jackpot. The staff brought over champagne buckets to catch all the coins. He scooped fistfuls up and started putting them back in, whilst we all tutted and sneered and his missus went apeshit. Five minutes later he dropped the jackpot again.
Moral: stupidity & blind hope can be powerful allies.
