This is a link post Nice pay day coming for all the alledged Saville victims
There's something very wrong going on. Now he's dead anyone could say they were molested. No way over 300 people would have kept silent when he was alive. I think this is a load of bollocks now and they just want the cash and are willing to say anything to get it.

If not for the compensation claim, then for the media exposure.

This is a normal post People are weird.
Many will call the police and confess to a famous crime even though they're innocent

This is a normal post yeah totally.
but less likely to go through elaborate police interview procedures etc. also as far as i know it's unusual for people to make false claims of childhood abuse. the most likely kids to falsely accuse are those who have been genuinely abused before by someone else.

Many people will also claim to know the minds and motives of 300 alleged abuse victims.

This is a normal post I think everyone should calm down and wait for the court cases
Then we can see the evidence. Paedophiles are notoriously devious, often clever, and very manipulative and target children who are not always good at making sensible choices. The "best" paedophiles (top 10 list required) will be able to cause great damage over their lifetime - remember this man died before any allegations have come to court so he must have been very good at getting away with it.

On the flipside, what if he only molested 299 children? Then all the people saying we should dig up his body and hang him will look a little over-reactionary won't they

A lot of the alleged victims were in children's homes, hospitals, mental institutions and such like.
He seems to have carefully targetted kids who were vunerable to suggestion, and unlikely to be believed if they did spill the beans.

People seem to be focusing too much on him groping girls in the TOTP audience. I would imagine most of those 300 are from the institutions mentioned above

This is a normal post Indeed, Harold Shipman murdered over 250 people and got away with it for so long by picking on the vulnerable.

This is a normal post i don't even think it's general people focusing on that.
i think there's a bit of an anti bbc thing going on. the tories are very happy to see both their ineptitude out of the news and stuff they can now indirectly use to privatise the bbc. the corporate right wing press are laying into the bbc like fuck. i read the independent and it's been like a fucking tabloid with jim'll's pasty paedo chops on it daily. why isn't anyone (in the press) hassling the five fucking police forces that failed to bring him to justice? for example it could very easily be historical systemic failures of police procedures concerning child sexual abuse that lead to savile not being done rather than no one saying anything. the feds can do what they like and the press let them away with it. anyone is welcome to disagree of course.

This is a normal post "The Feds"?
And I suppose the press criticizing Stoke Mandeville is part of an anti NHS agenda?

This is a normal post :D i thought someone would comment on that. :D sorry for not calling them the police.
i haven't been reading every paper cover to cover but it looks to me like the bbc are getting it tighter than the nhs on this one. even though the nhs has arguably fucked up more as they have a more specific duty of care. i might be wrong. i very often am. :d i definitely think that the police get an overly easy ride from the press generally and regarding this case specifically. i know we disagree about the specific awesomeness levels of teh police though eh?

This is a normal post The rozzers should fairly easily be able to weed out anyone with false claims....
....repeatedly interviewing the people and checking for inconsistencies, that sort of thing.

It's not as if Savile would be a great help with investigations if he were still about.

I choose not to believe everything thats printed in the press. I'll make up my mind when i see some evidence.

This is a normal post Well, yes: Healthy scepticism is critical. Especially in such high profile, contentious cases.
However, it sounds like you've already made up your mind as to the veracity of a great %age of the cases. Also, of course be critical of the media's coverage, but where else are you getting your information from?
Finally, what do you mean by evidence?
