OK, so America is an easy target because it's the leading superpower right now
but there are plenty of countries that get along just fine without being the proverbial whipping boys.
It's a global society now and someone is going to always play the role of political stepfather. It's not always going to be the USA, either. Don't forget, there was a time when everyone had to kiss England's ass, too.
There is certainly some truth to a blind eye being turned to some of the worse behavior as long as fealty is claimed. A whole lot of crappiness to the whole situation, really.
