This is a normal post They might have a point
But do those figures take into account the VAT on the fireworks and what the 250,000 people spend who go to watch that goes into the economy? Don't get me wrong, I still think it is a waste of money, but balance and all that.

This is a normal post "Alright, we won't have the fireworks this year then."
"You'll still be skint, but at least you can be ever so slightly more smug than before."

This is a normal post I don't know about there,
But you'll probably find that like here, the cost of the fireworks is mostly paid for by corporate sponsors of the NYE festivities than by government.

So any griping about the cost is an exercise in futility, as if there were none, then it's not like that amount would be freed to be spent on facilities or services. Plus, as mentioned above, you wouldn't have the income and tax generated by people in and around the city for the event.

3500 of those.

This is a normal post Let's ban the fireworks!
Then we can be poor AND miserable! Heaven forbid we spend our money on anything that could bring a little bit of joy into people's lives!

Seriously, 2 million is a piddling little drop in the ocean of the welfare and public sector wage bills.

This is a normal post The solution isn't to ban them.
The solution is to make sure everyone has fireworks.
