Why is there something rather than nothing?

Quantum fluctuations. Do we have any theoretical physicists on b3ta?

One in 12,500 people is a theoretical physicist.
B3ta has over 90,000 members.
So yes we do, in theory.

You assume that B3ta is a representitive sample of the population
However, both B3ta and Quantum Physics probably attracts a larger-than-average proportion of, well how can I put this, the socially-disadvantaged*. So there are probably more than your numbers would suggest.

"WARNING: Members of this group may exhibit viewpoints and behaviours which differ - sometimes significantly - from accepted social norms."

* in which group I include myself, so I'm not denegrating anyone

Yes indeed - quantum fluctuations plus the slight tendency to produce matter rather than antimatter

We don't yet know exactly WHY we get more matter than antimatter, it's a hot topic right now. If we didn't, then particles created by quantum fluctuations would cancel each other out.

As Steven Wright said,
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
