This is a question Redundant technology

Music on vinyl records, mobile phones the size of house bricks and pornography printed on paper. What hideously out of date stuff do you still use?

Thanks to boozehound for the suggestion

Shortwave!
To hell with 2,384,975 internet "radio" stations playing naught but trance and dubstep -- try listening to an actual radio station on the other side of the planet through thin air, whippersnappers.

Sometimes, if you write to them, they'll even send you a postcard.

Shortwave: the ultimate wireless connection.

QSL cards if I remember correctly?
My father and brother went through a phase of collecting them. At the time it was relatively exciting (may be wrong word, can't think of a better one) to receive cards from Deutsche Welle (sp?) and VoA, etc.

Those were the days.

I still have
QSLs and program schedules from Radio Australia circa 1985. I was so stoked to get those in the mail. I had heard radio from the diametrically opposite side of the world!

dunno but
shortwave always sounds like it comes through thick air.

I do like the random gibberish spy messages tho'

That's the appeal.
Rogue stations, robot spy numbers broadcasts, spittle-emitting angry propaganda, anything. And it could be anywhere on Earth. Back in the day when you had to work for perverted media.
