This is a question Bodge Jobs

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of duck tape, it's not worth fixing at all, my old mate said minutes before that nasty business with the hammer and a roll of duck tape. Tell us of McGyver-like repairs and whether they were a brilliant success or a health and safety nightmare.

i'm sure it'll be fine...
the electrics keep going in our house.

we only bought it last year and have only just managed to afford to have it plastered.

if we keep rebooting it, it seems to work on the most part. oh and we've had to undo the screws in the light sockets (and one wall socket) so as long as you don't turn the upstairs light on whilst holding the bottom of the switchplate it seems to be ok.

it'll be fine.

So you have an electrical fault that could cause a house fire and burn you all to death
sure it will be fine.
You are not "resetting" the fucking the house. You are overriding a safe cut off.

One of the screws for the switch plate is crushing a wire when done up tight?
Crushing the live onto the metal which is earthed and trips the RCD?

Easy to fix if that's the case - pull a little more wire through, trim back the damaged bit and screw back up making sure the wires are well away from the screw holes.
