This is a question This book changed my life

The Goat writes, "Some books have made a huge impact on my life." It's true. It wasn't until the b3ta mods read the Flashman novels that we changed from mild-mannered computer operators into heavily-whiskered copulators, poltroons and all round bastards in a well-known cavalry regiment.

What books have changed the way you think, the way you live, or just gave you a rollicking good time?

Friendly hint: A bit of background rather than just a bunch of book titles would make your stories more readable

This book changed someone's life, certainly.
Take a look at this.

I think we found out where one of our fellow b3tards works.

I'm so glad we never have year books in the UK.
Who wants to be reminded what a twat they looked like when they were 16.

BGB
Don't count on it... we had yearbooks and leavers' books. More and more places are doing it.

I look more or less the same as I did when I was 18, I reckon, a few extra white hairs aside.

Unfortunately...
my school did have a yearbook.

Will I never live dressing up as Tina Turner down?

No. And, frankly, I don't deserve to.

(P.S - all incriminating evidence has been destroyed...)

Bloody Americanization of Britain.
They even have Prom nights now. Ball gowns, limos, the full monty.

Americanization?
Oh, God, we're losing the war.

I blame television. And.. rap music, maybe.

"McKinney...
..is about 20 miles North of Dallas"

Thank you kind article blokes. You just saved me locating my atlas. Who gives a toss where the place is?

Weapons of cultural mass destruction
is what Jerry Pournelle calls it. His theory on how best to bring down the theocracies in the Middle East is to ship over lots of jeans, sneakers and iPods pre-loaded with current hits.

Apparently it's working on you lot as well.

I'm not sure if it's 'Americanisation' or just having loads of pop-culture hurled at us. I once remember meeting a bunch of Americans who were being apologetic for their fellow countrymen's culture. They were apologising for having given us things like Beavis and Butthead, and Southpark. I in turn apologised for having unleashed the Spice-Girls on them.

As an American
I wouldn't apologize for Beavis and Butt-Head. If you actually watched it you quickly found out that it was a pretty biting and dead-on satirical commentary on society rather than just the misadventures of a pair of idiots. Similarly, South Park is a rather caustic satire as well.

I would, however, apologize for "Baywatch" and "Miami Vice" and Britney Spears.

In which Enzyme ends the Culture Wars
Guess what? There's a bunch of US culture that's garbage. Quite a lot of it is fabulous. There's a bunch of UK culture that's garbage. Quite a lot of it is fabulous.

Stunning insight, eh?

*angry*
BIG BROTHER.

That is all.

*fumes self to death*

Perhaps, Enzyme...
...but it's the American cultural trash that gets broadcast everywhere. Christ- when I was over there I saw Jerry Springer on TV! If there was ever a cause for national shame, he's it...

@Loon
Well, in that case, the fault lies with us for buying it more than (or just as much as) with the US for making it...

*starts campaign for homegrown trash*

OK, I know I live in Texas
But I swear that one wasn't me. I don't even live near that town.

Then it is your duty
to hunt down the employee in question and give him a beer and a "Woo Yay".

I'll be in south Texas next week
so I'll do what I can.

Actually, nevermind.
The company where it happened is in Minnesota.

Damn.

I do have a cousin in Minnesota
if that helps :)

iPods for the MidEast

Er, they already love that shit.
