It wasn't until the b3ta mods read the Flashman novels that we changed from mild-mannered computer operators into heavily-whiskered copulators, poltroons and all round bastards in a well-known cavalry regiment.

Great bookThat and Neuromancer by William Gibson completely blew me away.
You should also try Cryptonomicon by Stephenson.

Cryptonomiconis his best, I think. He's not a great writer in terms of style, but his research and attention to detail are amazing.

Baroque Trilogylove a bit of Stephenson myself - Snow Crash is great, my all time favourite is probably The Diamond Age though.
I recently finished the Baroque Trilogy - pretty darn good, but occasionally hard work. I might have to buy Diamond age again now.
