This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Bashing boy-racers.
I'm not pleased with the way lots of people have had a go at the corsa/nova/saxo drivers this week.

Those baseball-cap-sporting, loud-bad-music-playing, late-night-driving lads & lasses face almost daily harrassment by the police to produce documentation, so are usually always fully legal, insured etc.

However annoying it may be, I'm sure you would rather they were driving their own (shitty) cars and working hard at their modern apprenticeships to buy their stereo kit than claiming dole and stealing your car to razz around the industrial estate at 3am.

Yes, I used to be one.
No, I'm no longer one.

Give them a break.

O RLY?
What you say is true, and in the same way it's true that diptheria is less bad than cancer.

Neither is better yet.

Still rather harsh!
If they hold their 'cruise' on your street, fair enough. That would be a real p!sser. Other than that, are they really harming you?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:19, closed)
Yes.
The music coming out of their cars is unsociably loud, and the manner in which they drive - way over the speed limit - is posing a danger to everyone.

So what if they're insured? They still drive like pricks...

Fully legal?
Having a massive exhaust and playing loud music causes a noise nuisance, especially where I live and the road is only four metres off my front door. Plus they routinely whizz between the traffic lights at top speed then slam on the brakes if they are still on red.

Driving behaviour likely to cause an accident. There is no need to drive like that, so I don't care if they are insured, they are still cunts.

Granted.
I was probably and exception, being a reasonably safe and responsible driver. I do remember some utter shitwits who thought they could re-enact the Fast & Furious street races between car parks. They were a minority in my time though.

This is the problem
It's not really the cars themselves that are the issue, it's the drivers.

They're usually 17-25 years old and driver like fupping lunatics. It's one thing to take your Saxo to 100MPH on an empty motorway at 1AM, it's quite a different kettle of fish to drive at 60 on a busy town centre road with a 30MPH limit.

Take the twat I saw last week. Him and a bunch of his mouth-breathing mates in a VW Golf GTI driving as fast as possible round a roundabout and using the handbrake to get some "fucking wicked oversteer"

Genius! Especially considering this is a huge two lane roundabout with 6 exits slap bang in the centre of a large town at 5:10PM on a weekday evening.

and the awful, awful music
If I wanted to listen to R. Kelly and the ringtone brigade, I would come round your house.

I would love to see if they responded civilly to me pulling up on their street blasting something they hadn't planned on listening to that day.

^^^^^^^

So if
I were to walk through your house every now and then and drown out whatever you are watching/listening to/conversing with by blasting massive noises that wouldn't bother you?

It is a problem and they are anti-social regardless of whether they are holding "a cruise" or not.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:29, closed)
99.99999999999999% of them
are cunts. Anti-social, obnoxious cunts.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:26, closed)
Yeah, fuck 'em.
Confiscate their cars, and they can sit on your garden wall drinking cider and playing music through their phones instead.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:32, closed)
Because that's the only solution?
Lets not descend into facetiousness, you appeared to want to debate a valid point.

No

(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:34, closed)
When.....
one comes crashing through your front garden, and lands on top of your car parked on your own driveway, insured or not, just because they fancied "a bit of a sprint" you might change your tune.

Castrate the bastards, and their parents, and forcibly ban stoopid mother fucker exhausts now.

Cretin.

Cruising
Just as an aside, I used to work at a company that also did cut vinyl vehicle graphics. Some young chav comes in and asks if he can have some stickers cut for his cruising crew. My boss, a middle aged scot, looks askew at him, and then across at me, obviously thinking of the George Michael kind of cruising.

"What?"
"My cruising crew."
"Cruising?"
"Yeah, me and the boys get in our cars and go cruising."
"Cruising?" He is staggered that this young man is so candid, that not only will he talk about his proclivities, but actually wants stickers to advertise them. "Where do you, er, where do you cruise?"
"We meet up in a car park then go from there."
Big pause
"Cruising?"
Someone had to explain. What was funny was that neither had any concept of what the other was driving at.

I may have nearly died from holding the laughter in.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:42, closed)
this is excellent
he should have made some graphics up for the george michael style cruising
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:52, closed)
I'd rather not give them a break
Their activities may be legal in most cases but annoying to the majority. That is, the very wide majority, i.e. people with small children, students trying to study, drivers trying to make their way from A to B without having to worry about some idiot with a drainpipe attached to their car cutting them up on the road. If they weren't annoying and more importantly antisocial, there wouldn't be this problem, but unfortunately there is. They have only themselves to blame for the attention they attract.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 13:50, closed)
my gripe is
why spend all that money doing up a shit car when you could buy a better car?

saxos, novas etc. are all shit
