My great aunt co-founded Liberty.Or the National Council for Civil Liberties, as it was known at the time. As part of the NCCL, she helped gather together some of the great and good (including E. M. Forster and H. G. Wells) to fight against Fascism in Britain.
In the 30s, Fascism was a problem across Europe, not just in Germany and Italy. You may have heard of Oswald Mosley and his blackshirts.
One of the reasons the UK didn't go the way of Germany was the NCCL (and my great aunt). The world might have been a very different place without her.
On top of that, your reason for disliking Liberty is nonsense: they do not tell you how to live your life.
