Probably best to post as i think of them....
....

Princess Mononoke - i simply love that film. Absolutely everything about that film always enchants me and i use the word specifically.

Being a massive fan of all the zelda games and knowing what influenced them this film is bascially an animated version of it for me.

Magical forests, daemons and beasts, heroes and villians and ambiguous charecters. I simply love it.

I have a strong belief that kids need to be kids and when i can find someone stupid enough to let me knock them up the kids are going to see this when they are little. That way HOPEFULLY they can have a little childish belief in sprites, elves, ghosts, daemons and spirits that live at the bottom of the garden before the 'real' world gets hold of them and chews them up.

EDIT due to terrible spelling.

@Grove
One of the first Ghibli films (1984 if I remember rightly). It portrays a very poignant environmental message and brilliantly animated.

A few
There are others that I haven't got round to watching, but these are some of the best (IMHO).

- Porco Rosso, very amusing.
- My Neighbour Totoro (for kids really but very creative)
- Laputa, Castle in the Sky: EXCELLENT
- Howl's Moving Castle

@grove
pretty much all of them are good. Nausicaa is ace, as is Howls moving Castle and my friend Totoro is a gentle one to make you smile.

God imdb is going to get a hammering this week i reckon!

i love
the cat bus in my neighbour totoro
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 16:34, closed)
for total obscure quotage
there is a cat bus reference from my neghbour totoro in 1 frame of the graphic novel Smax by ?alan moore and Zander Cannon!

but to be fair they obviously had a field day cos Marvin the Paranoid Andreoid, Stargate and all kinds of random shit appear in the background of it!

CATBUS!...
Just great isnt it. Looks rather sinister in a strange kind of way but thats probably just the fact that its a cat.

On a side note and if you dont mind me showing off...You know the tree spirits in Princess Mononoke? The Kodama? Those little humanoid creatures all over the trees?

I sculpted a bunch of them out of clay and then used silicone rubber and two part 'fast cast' resin to make copies. I made about 15, painted them white with black eyes and attatched them all over one of the trees in the back garden :) Once i get home ill put up a picture.

Thanks for all your responses by the way guys. You have given me a new 'to watch' list!

:D

Aye, a great film.
I wanted to see it for so long, then, last month, staying up late for no reason outher then a lack of any direction in my life led me to discover mononoke was starting in 10 mins on film 4. long enough to get a drink, brush my teeth and poop, then watcht the film snuggled up in bed. I got the subtitled japanese version, which is a shame cos you get distracted from the animation, though it was less eddited, and a supprising amount of violence was left in for a kids film(severed arms stuck bleeding to a tree!)

also, spirited away is beautiful, very haunting and also very cheerful. takes you back to childhood.

akira is different but worth looking for, alot more of an adult aimed film, and also a lot deeper.

Can I have a kodama of my very own? Pretty please? I'll buy you a beer at the next bash :)

Oh and don't watch Grave of the fireflies if you want to be in a good mood at the end of it.

Lovely to see you posting on here :)

Here is one of them in the pear tree in the back garden. He has two eyes, he is just looking away at the moment.
