Comparisons
Perhaps the image I've cultivated here is one of cold rationalism, tinged at times with hot fury. That's not wholly correct.

I have found something that gives my life structure.
It provides the prism through which I view the world.
It soothes me in times of pain and distress.

God? Religion?

Nope. Radio 4.

Except for You and Yours, Money Box Live and The Moral Maze, of course.

I join you at church every day
R 4 in the background is the soundtrack to my life

Ditto
I only used to listen to it while driving, but now it's on almost constantly. Without R4 my life would be considerably impoverished.

Can't agree more. The long drives to chickenlady towers were made more pleasant thanks to Radio 4 and The Now Show in particular.

That's only because
you developed a crush on Jon Holmes after I told you I was at Uni with him.

You knew Jon Holmes?
Blimey. He and Brigstocke are the only decent things about The Now Show. But The Unbelievable Truth is back tonight, which makes me do a happy dance.

Yep, he shared a house with one of my friends
He is incredibly short and very funny.

He tried to sleep with my friend but she just laughed - she's nearly six foot tall and funnier than him.

I heartily agree.
The funny thing about Radio 4 is how programmes you hate on the first few listens (e.g. Money Box etc that still get turned off) can eventually seduce you.

I used to hate GQT with a passion but now I can't get enough of it.

(I live on a first floor flat with no garden).

Podcasting
that's the future. You can keep programmes you like to listen to when the odd poor one pops up.

R7's good too, for repeats of Old Harry's Game.

To some extent.
But if I ever start listening to The Moral Maze or Money Box voluntarily, I ought to be killed with a blunt instrument.

But... but...
Please say "Quote Unquote" is in that exception list too.

I love Radio 4
During a particularly bad bout of insomnia a couple of years ago I found that the shipping forecast as R4 switched over to the world service always helped me drift off.

I now listen in the car too much to my passenger's annoyance most of the time.
